Baby’s Breath is Canada’s only national foundation focused on SIDS, and more recently also dedicated to reducing all sudden and unexpected infant deaths including stillbirths. Since our inception in 1973, we have pursued our mission through research, advocacy, and grief counselling to assist families who have faced the tragic loss of an infant. The death of an infant is a devastating event not only for the parents, but for the entire family. Siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends are all affected by the sudden death of a baby. Baby’s Breath believes no one should endure the grief of such loss alone. We are here to help.
Losing a baby or infant is devastating to the entire family. It is estimated that 3 babies under the age of one die each week in Canada. Families are left with unanswered questions and must cope with the devastating grief. In many communities in Canada there are no specific support systems available for individuals or families that have suffered the loss of a baby or child. These individuals are faced with debilitating grief and need specific counselling and support. If not addressed in a timely and professional manor, their grief can develop into anxiety, depression or PTSD which then affects everyone around them.
