About
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Barrie and District has been providing life changing mentoring relationships to young people in Barrie and area for over 50 years. Our programs are offered free of charge to children and youth in our community who face adversity AND are in need of an additional consistent and supportive Developmental Relationship.
Mentoring Programs
One-to-One Mentoring connects youth with a role model to talk and share the experiences of growing up with. Through regular outings, a relationship is developed which is built on trust and common interests. The result is a life-changing experience for both mentor and mentee.
In-School Mentoring provides youth with a role model to talk to and share the experiences of growing up within the school grounds. For one hour per week, mentors meet with their mentee and engage in activities such as board games, crafts or just spending time together.
Go Girls! is a group mentoring program for girls aged 12-14 focusing on physical activity, balanced eating and self-esteem.
Game On! is a group mentoring program providing elementary-aged boys with support to make informed choices about healthy lifestyle practices.
Our Impact
Many young people struggle with barriers that put them at risk of not reaching their full potential. When matched to a mentor who offers guidance and support these risks can be reduced or avoided, and they can gain confidence to achieve more. They graduate our programs with measurable outcomes in the areas of Social Emotional Competence, Mental Health and Well Being, Educational Engagement and Employment Readiness.
Every dollar invested has a return on investment of $18-$23.
