About
At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Regina we create, invest in, and empower life-changing relationships for children and youth facing adversity.
Big Brothers Big Sisters mentors form strong positive relationships with their mentees that express care, challenge growth, provide support, share power, and expand possibilities. Our agency focuses on prevention. It is the guidance and support of a trusted mentor that makes the difference. Our mentees are resilient and show amazing potential, they simply need a spark to make them shine. It’s proven that children who have a positive mentor are less likely to engage in destructive behaviour. Mentoring helps create safer schools and communities.
Our agency serves over 214 young people in our mentoring programs to enhance children’s lives and support families in Regina and area. However we know the need is so much greater and in some areas children are on our waitlist for over a year. Everyday in a child’s life is crucial, they shouldn’t have to wait for the help they need to reach their full potential.
Our Impact
Potential. It exists in every kid. Yet many children and youth struggle with societal barriers and face adversities such as poverty, family instability, and identity-based discrimination. These adversities can negatively impact a young person’s future.
With the support of professional, qualified Big Brothers Big Sisters staff, mentors form deep one-to-one relationships with their mentees that strengthen their social emotional learning and executive functioning skills, ensuring they develop into resilient young people who are able to overcome life’s adversities, and lead productive and healthy lives.
The evidence is clear. When we provide young people facing adversity with a committed mentor, we are decreasing their risk and igniting their potential.
