Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta

Community Benefit

About

It’s right there in our name: community. Thanks to a group of community-minded individuals, the Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta has been supporting the community for over five decades. Since 1966, we have built our endowment funds to more than $33 million, with the intent to support our community forever. Our grants come from these funds and support the charities that are working hard to make our community a great place to live. How do we do this? We help donors connect with causes that are close to their heart. Thanks to their generosity, we have funded over $18 million in grants throughout our region. The Community Foundation is a registered Canadian charity and the ninth-oldest of Canada’s 191 community foundations.

Our Impact

The Community Foundation manages charitable gifts from donors, whose generosity allows us to create permanent, income-earning endowment funds. The income generated by these funds is distributed to the charities our donors wish to support. Our mission, to inspire charitable giving and steward funds to help build a vibrant Southwestern Alberta.

  • Donor-Advised Fund – Annually, you decide which charity or charities you want your fund to support, and the Community Foundation will grant from your fund accordingly.
  • Donor-Designated Fund – You choose which charity or charities you want to support when you establish your fund. Based on your wishes, the Community Foundation will automatically grant annually to the charity or charities selected.
  • Field of Interest Fund – When you establish your fund, you may choose an area of interest that you want to support—a specific age group, a geographical location, or an issue that is important to you. The Community Foundation will grant to organizations from the chosen field.
  • Scholarship Fund – You choose the institution, criteria, subject, or type of student to support through an annual scholarship.

You can also support your favourite charity through a Charity Support Fund. It’s an endowment that helps to provide long-term financial support for a charitable organization.
