About
Despite the many known benefits of literacy, more than half of children in the developing world will not learn to read and write properly unless something changes.
For over 60 years, CODE has worked with local organizations in developing countries to empower children to learn. Presently operating in 5 countries across Africa, CODE helps build children’s literacy skills by providing schools and community libraries with well-written and culturally-relevant books, and works to improve learning outcomes through investments in teacher training, extracurricular programs and better infrastructure.
Our Impact
Thanks to donors like you, CODE has already brought the joy of reading and learning to over 10 million children. Your assistance has filled library shelves with quality books and supported teachers to learn the critical skills needed to effectively engage classrooms of young readers and learners.
Over the past three years we have together:
- Reached 687,079 children through our literacy programs
- Provided 8,295 teachers with professional development opportunities
- Distributed 269,945 copies of books to schools and community libraries
We’re grateful to receive consistently high rankings from Charity Intelligence Canada and to have been once again recognized as one of “Canada’s Top 100 Charities in 2020” along with the honor of being named a “Top 10 International impact Charity.”
