About
The Georgian Bay Symphony was founded in 1972 by a small group of dedicated area musicians. Since then the GBS has grown to an outstanding community orchestra with over 50 volunteer members, from across Grey and Bruce counties, and a core group of professionals. The GBS performs five “Main Series” concerts at East Ridge Community School each season. Our main concerts are supported by over 500 season subscribers with average attendance of over 650 patrons.
The Symphony supports regional youth musicians in a variety of ways. Supports the local Kiwanis Music Festival with several awards for string players as well as offering us of instruments when needed. The Symphony awards its own bursaries to young musicians who perform in the orchestra.
Each year the Georgian Bay Symphony sponsors a Free Family Christmas concert.
Our Impact
The Georgian Bay Symphony supports youth and music in our region in a variety of ways. The orchestra encourages young musicians to come and perform with us offering mentorship opportunities. Young performers with the Symphony are eligible, each season, for two different bursaries. We provide monetary scholarships to the Grey County Kiwanis Festival each year.
Each season the GBS hosts a free Community Christmas concert and invite other organizations to participate such as the Roxy Young Company, Big Sound (El Sistema Grey Bruce), Georgian Bay Children’s Choir, and others.
The orchestra also has an ongoing $5 student ticket that helps make attending more affordable for young people and families.
The Symphony also provide local area musicians an outlet for their creativity and provided high quality orchestra concerts that area residence would not otherwise be able to attend.
