About Hamilton Food Share
Operating for over 30 years, Hamilton Food Share is the city’s emergency food shipping and receiving hub and emergency food systems coordinator for the network of agencies we support.
Over the past year, we have expanded our reach, providing food resources to 16 member agencies operating 23 emergency food programs. The expansion of the emergency food network has allowed Hamilton Food Share to bring in additional member agencies. In doing this, we are now able to support communities and individuals who have faced various barriers in accessing emergency food programs and have increased our capacity to distribute food supports that meets the cultural needs of an increased number of communities.
Through our food acquisition and distribution program, over 3.8 million pounds of nutritionally rich food, valued at almost $10M is delivered to food banks and hot meal programs to ensure that people living in poverty have access to healthy good food for themselves and their families. These emergency food programs support almost 8,500 visits every month representing over 12,565 unique individuals, 36% of whom are children, residing in 5,500 households. Additionally, our programs are serving over 21,000 hot meals each month.
