About
Hospice Halifax is a compassionate and supportive community of staff, volunteers, and donors dedicated to making dying and living as comfortable and as meaningful as possible at the end of life.
Hospice palliative care means providing opportunities for patients and families to uniquely address practical, physical, emotional, and spiritual needs while preparing for the patient’s death. Every year, Hospice Halifax welcomes 125-150 terminally ill patients facing the end of life, including vulnerable seniors, people living with physical disabilities, and people who are precariously housed.
WHAT IS HOSPICE CARE?
“Thank you to everyone at Hospice Halifax, especially the nurses who took such special care of our mom…You all went above and beyond what we could have ever imagined. The Hospice truly became our second home and we are so grateful for the time we spent there.”

“There are no words to express our gratitude. Thank you for transforming the worst time in our lives into something positive. Every single one of you went above and beyond.”

Our Impact
End of life impacts everyone. And at Hospice Halifax, our mission is to provide the best end-of-life care to patients and their families. Hospice Halifax is an option for people with end-of-life care needs that can’t be met at home and who don’t need to be in the hospital. We care for the whole person and their family, focusing on symptom management, comfort care, planning for end of life, helping people achieve the best quality of life possible, and support for families and friends impacted by a loved one’s death.
Each year we provide services for 125 – 150 patients and their families. And we don’t stop there. We support others in our community facing end of life through our outreach programs including free one-on-one grief counselling, and several bereavement programs. Our survey results show our patients and their families are 100% satisfied with their hospice experience.
The impact we’ve had on the community has grown in our 2 years of operation but we can do much more. Click here for details on our impact. We had many referrals for hospice beds that we couldn’t accommodate because of our limited capacity. With your help, we can expand our services.
