About
JDRF’s Vision: A world without T1D
JDRF’s Mission: Improving lives today and tomorrow by accelerating life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat T1D and its complications.
Working Toward a World Without T1D
JDRF works every day to change the reality of this disease for millions of people—and to prevent anyone else from ever knowing it—by funding research, advocating for government support of research and new therapies, ensuring new therapies come to market and connecting and engaging the T1D community.
We must keep up the pace of funding so progress doesn’t slow or stop entirely, and we can turn type one into type none.
We know that an equal number of children and adults are diagnosed every day—approximately 110 people per day. Thanks to better therapies, which JDRF funding has been instrumental in developing and making available – people with T1D live longer and stay healthier while they await a cure. Our goal at JDRF is to:
- Remove the misconception that T1D is only a childhood disease
- Acknowledge that nearly 85 percent of people living with the disease are over age 18
- Reinforce our commitment to funding research that improves life for people at all ages and all stages of the disease
We must keep up the pace of funding so progress doesn’t slow or stop entirely, and we can turn type one into type none.
Our Impact
JDRF was founded to cure T1D. Every day, our research moves us closer towards that goal. Our cure research is advancing on the need to reverse the autoimmune response that damages insulin producing-beta cells and restoring their function with the goal of freedom from insulin for people of all ages with T1D. Our based research is focused on screening, disease-modifying therapies, and cell therapies.
In addition to our research, JDRF exists to support the T1D community across Canada, whether it’s at the time of a new diagnosis, providing families with resources to better navigate T1D or make personal connections with those who share similar experience. JDRF wants to make sure no one ever feels alone.
A key part of our mission is improving the lives of those living with T1D. JDRF is working together to build bonds among those who are personally affected by diabetes with their Members of Parliament (MP) as well as their provincial and municipal officials. These relationships strengthen our community, provide support for those living with diabetes, and deliver JDRF’s message – the need to accelerate the pace of research and access through funding from our federal and provincial governments.
