L’Arche Toronto Homes Inc., L’Arche Toronto, is a community of people with and without intellectual disabilities who share life together.
L’Arche Toronto is a welcoming community that transforms the lives of everyone involved by providing opportunities for meaningful relationships, friendship and a sense of belonging. L’Arche Toronto has four community homes in east Toronto clustered around the community’s Gathering Place. L’Arche Toronto also offers a variety of programs for persons with intellectual disabilities.
For over 49 years, L’Arche Toronto has been committed to providing a person-centered approach to supports and services for people with intellectual disabilities. From finding meaningful supported employment and volunteer opportunities across the GTA to engaging with the broader community through art shows, performance and innovative programs, L’Arche Toronto is rooted in values of empowerment and inclusion. In addition to a vibrant community life, L’Arche Toronto offers daily living support, employment support, volunteer placement support, a day program in the homes, and two community inclusion programs.
Sol Express is an innovative creative and performance arts program that focuses on developing the talents and skills of artists with intellectual disabilities.
Trying It on For Size (TIFS) is a one-year life skills program that helps individuals to be more independent as they become more integrated into community life and benefit from the experience of interdependence.
Our Impact
L’Arche Toronto brings to life the mission of L’Arche. At L’Arche persons, with and without intellectual disabilities, share life while engaging with a wide circle of family, friends, volunteers and neighbours. L’Arche helps participants discover their gifts and abilities, and supports them to achieve their goals for a meaningful life. Core members, who live in our homes, create home with those who support them, sharing in the tasks of daily life and building strong supportive relationships. All supports are tailored to the goals and needs of each person.
- Community housing with support and day programming for 20. A a new home for five more individuals will be opening in 2023. Assurance for family members that their child/sibling has safe and affordable housing with the support they need, for the future.
- Creative and performance arts programs five days a week for an additional 40 individuals in Toronto.
- Intensive one-to-one life skills programming for eight to 10 individuals per year. We also offer variety of on-line programs for up to 15 more per session throughout the year. Ongoing support for the 15 graduates of the TIFS program.
- A vibrant community life full of celebration and traditions.
