Would you like to make a gift to Meewasin that keeps on giving? A legacy gift will support Meewasin’s mission in ensuring a healthy and vibrant river valley.
The Meewasin Valley Authority is a non-profit organization that exists to ensure a healthy and vibrant river valley, with a balance between human use and conservation, for the benefit of present and future generations, in Saskatoon & area.
Created in 1979 by an Act of the Government of Saskatchewan, The Meewasin Valley Authority Act, Meewasin is a non-profit organization dedicated to conserving the cultural and natural resources of the South Saskatchewan River Valley.
It is the means by which the three participating parties (City of Saskatoon, Government of Saskatchewan, and University of Saskatchewan) have chosen to best manage the Meewasin Valley in the South Saskatchewan River Basin. The creation of Meewasin is based on the concept that the partners working together through a single agency – Meewasin – can accomplish more than they could individually.
The Meewasin Valley Authority exists to ensure a healthy and vibrant river valley, with a balance between human use and conservation by:
- Providing leadership in the management of its resources;
- Promoting understanding, conservation and beneficial use of the Valley; and
- Undertaking programs and projects in river valley development and conservation;
for the benefit of present and future generations.
Our Impact
Meewasin is committed to supporting a healthy and vibrant river valley, creating a sense of community and protecting the legacy of the Meewasin jurisdiction. Donations support our goals and objectives in the following areas:
Inform, lead and add value to land management decisions affecting the natural and cultural interests of the river valley corridor. Meewasin monitors, restores and enhances land in its jurisdiction by undertaking active conservation measures such as prescribed fire, grazing, invasive species removal and re-planting of native vegetation.
Coordinate and endorse a broad range of seasonal opportunities for citizens and visitors to connect with the river valley, learn about its history and significance and enhance its use. Meewasin provides educational and tourism programs for a variety of age groups and interests. We have prioritized partnering with Indigenous groups to highlight significant landscapes and stories.
Furthering the relationships, innovation, expertise, advocacy and reconciliation necessary to steward the river valley corridor. Meewasin coordinates within the region to support economic prosperity and cultural and natural conservation.
