About
Muskoka Conservancy is all about nature conservation in Muskoka. Muskoka is known for its natural beauty and we are making a difference by protecting 50 conservation properties in every corner of Muskoka. Together with your support, we can acquire many more properties to keep Muskoka beautiful by nature.
We protect natural land on Lake Muskoka, Lake Joseph, Lake Rosseau, Lake of Bays, Lake Vernon, Skeleton Lake, Three Mile Lake and many smaller lakes, too. This includes close to 60,000 feet of unspoiled shoreline!
Muskoka Conservancy was established as a registered charity in 1987, became a land trust in the early 1990s, and has been working hard acquiring properties ever since. Whether we own property, or have a registered interest in a property (known as a “conservation easement”), we take care to ensure the natural values that make it special are protected forever.
Our Impact
By protecting land, we are conserving:
- thousands of acres of beautiful forests, wetlands and rock barrens;
- long stretches of unspoiled big lake shoreline
- the ecological integrity of species rich wetlands
- habitat for species at risk
The impact of protecting nature goes well beyond beauty. Wetlands, for example, act as filters that ensure Muskoka’s lakes maintain their legendary water quality. Wetlands are also giant sponges that absorb snow melt and stormwater, slowing down the flow and reducing the impacts of flooding on our waterfront communities.
