About The Calgary Society of Community Opportunities

The Calgary Society of Community Opportunities (CSCO) is a dynamic society determined to improve the lives of vulnerable adults. Our day program is fun, energetic and empowering for participants and we are on the leading edge of creating the first Clubhouse for adults with developmental disabilities. We have received many commendations from our Clubhouse Champions to pursue this game changing path. CSCO is providing an Internship so staff from other locales can learn how to set up a Clubhouse in their area too! Join the movement by donating to our cause today.

Our Impact

Recreation (Taken from research that supports recreation):

  • Helps reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke, osteoporosis, diabetes, cancer, arthritis, back problems and obesity
  • Increases mental health and well-being by reducing stress and depression
  • Builds self-esteem and a positive self-image
  • Reduces negative behaviours (from a lack of motivation and dependence on staff to repeated instances of aggression or passivity)
  • Reduces racism by building an understanding between diverse cultures
  • Reduces isolation, loneliness and alienation
  • Leisure builds and maintains friendly relationships for both people with and without disabilities

Music (Taken from the Canadian Association of Music Therapists):
