The Manitoba Chamber Orchestra (MCO) is a cultural cornerstone in Manitoba’s artistic landscape. With a rich history dating back to 1972, the MCO has consistently pushed the boundaries of classical music, captivating audiences with its innovative approach and unwavering commitment to artistic excellence.
Our mandate is to create and perform diverse chamber orchestra repertoire at the highest artistic level to inspire, connect, and enrich the lives of our audience. We tour widely, commission exciting new works, embrace a diverse repertoire, and collaborate with other arts groups and some of the world’s leading soloists.
In addition to our acclaimed concert season, the MCO provides impactful, province-wide education and outreach programming. Our approach is to lessen barriers for participation in the performing arts by engaging communities across Manitoba, and provide opportunities for meaningful interactions with the orchestra.
The MCO has a distinctive role in Manitoba’s cultural landscape, seamlessly blending tradition with innovation and forging a meaningful connection with community. Every year, nearly 20,000 people, including families and children from Winnipeg’s inner city to the remote corners of the province, have an experience with live music thanks to the MCO, many for the first time.
The MCO’s intimate musical journey offers a unique dimension to concert experience, creating lasting and enriching memories. Through our programming, we aim to inspire, connect, and enrich the lives of Manitobans.
For five decades, the MCO functions as a cultural ambassador, contributing to the growth of Manitoba’s music community and providing enriching experiences for diverse audiences. The orchestra plays a pivotal role in supporting local artists, composers, and performers, contributing to the growth and sustainability of the regional arts scene.
