Wealth Advisor, ScotiaMcLeod

About Patrick Smith

Along with an exceptional team, I run a full-service wealth management practice on Vancouver Island, focused on helping clients with tax-considered total wealth strategies that align investment, retirement, philanthropic and estate plans.

I initially trained as a Chartered Professional Accountant, and went on to complete CPA Canada’s In-Depth Income Tax Program. After a number of years working with clients to execute complex tax planning at a national accounting firm, I joined the Mattenley Group at Scotia Wealth Management where I have used my experience to provide comprehensive financial advice to clients.

I also hold a Trust and Estate Practitioner designation, am a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation, and am a Past-President of the Victoria Estate Planning Council.

Away from the office, I spend time with my wife, Katy, and two young children, Claire and Alec. I coach my daughter’s soccer team, love to bike and am reasonably handy around the house.

Typical Clients

I spent quite a bit of time thinking about this question, as our client base is diverse in terms of geography, age, stage, profession, etc. After reviewing a full list of our clients and spending some time reflecting, I noticed that our clients share one distinct characteristic.

Each client facing some unique circumstance that increases complexity in their lives. Complexities can be emotional (investment anxiety, for example), circumstantial (blended families, for example) or financial (tax considerations, for example).

By getting to know our clients really (really) well we help clients navigate complexity. Our team is uniquely credentialed and experienced to offer informed, unbiased advice.

Our goal is to help our clients to live a life of greater return.
