The Good Samaritan Society
About
Compassion. Purpose. Community.
As the largest not-for-profit provider of seniors’ care in Alberta and British Columbia, The Good Samaritan Society and Good Samaritan Canada (together, Good Samaritan) have been providing exceptional care and support since 1949. We are faith-based, not-for-profit organizations committed to creating safe, comfortable communities where individuals experience caring, belonging, and purpose.
With a proud history of innovation and service excellence, Good Samaritan offers continuing and long-term care, supportive and assisted living, and a variety of specialized health care programs. We serve the healthy and frail elderly, adults with developmental disabilities, and those with chronic or complex health conditions.
Good Samaritan is Accredited with Exemplary Standing by Accreditation Canada—the highest level of accreditation available— demonstrating our ongoing commitment to high-quality, person-centred care.

- Seniors’ Clinic (Edmonton): Primary Care and consultative services for seniors with complex needs.
- Comprehensive specialized sites and units: services for young adults, individuals with specialized physical, mental and behavioural needs.
Our Impact
Thank you for (still) being a Good Samaritan!
Since 1949, Good Samaritan has drawn inspiration from the Parable of the Good Samaritan, welcoming those we serve with compassion and care.
As a not-for-profit organization, we rely on government and health authority funding, which does not cover all needs. Community donations and fundraising enable us to provide essential equipment, enhance care homes, support recreational programs and therapies, and invest in staff education.
Your gift supports our Mission: Following in the footsteps of the Good Samaritan, we extend Christian hospitality to people and communities in need.
Our residents are your family, friends, and neighbours—people like Gloria Bradshaw, who moved to Penticton in 1989. A registered psychiatric nurse for 17 years, Gloria was also a passionate feminist, activist, and arts lover. In her later years, she became a beloved client of the Adult Day Program at Good Samaritan Village by the Station in Penticton.
When Gloria passed in 2023, she left a legacy gift to support the program she cherished. Her generosity enabled Good Samaritan to purchase new wheelchairs, BRODA chairs, lift slings, and infection-prevention-compliant furniture—ensuring continued comfort and safety for residents into the future.
How your gift will be used
You can choose exactly where your gift goes—whether it’s a specific care home or a program that’s close to your heart. And rest assured, your support stays right where you intended, making a real difference in the community and care home you select.
Your generosity is truly immeasurable. You will help turn comfortable spaces into true home-like environments. Every dollar you give helps us offer meaningful recreation and therapy programs, thoughtful care, and beautiful environments. We can introduce new technologies, create welcoming spaces, and connect with residents and clients in innovative, engaging ways.
Let’s build the best possible homes for seniors and individuals with disabilities—places filled with compassion, purpose, and community.
