About
World Accord is a Canadian partner in global change, supporting community-led action, empowering women and girls, and building resilient communities.
For nearly 45 years, World Accord has been actively involved in successful international development projects and programs around the world. At World Accord, we deeply believe that effective international development begins at the local level and is articulated by the local level, with the goal of cultivating sustainable and resilient autonomy within communities. To achieve this, we partner with established local organizations already working effectively at the grassroots level in our program countries and ensure the knowledge and expertise of our program partners is at the centre of the work. This successful, collaborative approach is built on due diligence, mutual trust and continuous effective dialogue – a process that delivers diverse, highly targeted development activities that respond to the unique needs, capacities, and goals of specific communities in their own environments. World Accord’s ultimate goal is to help communities thrive and become so resilient and autonomous that our support is no longer needed.
World Accord has supported grassroots organizations in Central America (Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador), Asia (Nepal) and Africa (Ethiopia) to advance sustainable development. Key focus areas include sustainable agriculture (agroecology and agroforestry), promoting the economic and social empowerment of women and girls, and enhancing community resilience to the climate crisis.
Our Impact
Over the last 45 years, we’ve partnered with more than 200 communities, empowered more than 5,000 women and supported the creation of more than 300 small and medium local businesses globally. We believe in gradual, long-term development that equips communities to sustain improvements and become leaders in their own development.

Empowering Women & Girls: Empowerment is central to every project we do. We ensure women and girls are agents of change by promoting gender equity and inclusion at every level.
Community Organizing:Â We support grassroots mobilization and social capital building, helping communities come together to confront challenges and foster collective action.
Food Security: Our partners prioritize food access and sustainability. Programs focus on empowering vulnerable populations to grow, manage, and secure food resources independently.
Sustainable Agriculture: Through training in agroecology, agroforestry, and livestock care, we help farmers improve productivity while protecting their environment.
Micro-Enterprise & Entrepreneurship: Economic empowerment is built through access to credit and skills training, especially for women and youth starting small businesses.
Climate Crisis Adaptation: Our programs are adapting to the climate crisis by integrating resilience strategies such as water conservation, crop diversification, and environmental stewardship.
