About
L’Arche Winnipeg is a vibrant disability services organization that creates a community of friendship and belonging where people with and without intellectual disabilities live, work, learn, and grow together.
For over 50 years, we have been actively supporting, creating homes, and facilitating social and employment opportunities for about 25 people living with intellectual disabilities, along with their assistants. Our diverse community includes six houses, one Supported Independent Living unit, the L’Arche Tova CafĂ© and an extended network of friends who are passionate about creating a world where all people can thrive.
Since 1973, we have pioneered a family model of care in Winnipeg, where people with and without intellectual disabilities live and work together in mutual relationship. While many disability agencies operate using a medical or social service model of care – seeing people with disabilities as patients or clients to be helped – L’Arche believes that each person, no matter their ability, has value and contributes unique gifts to our community.
Our Impact
What makes L’Arche different than most caregiving organizations is that we are based on the L’Arche relational model, breaking down barriers between those who give and those who receive support. Our relational model replaces society’s emphasis on independence that leaves so many people lonely, with interdependence where each person flourishes as they contribute their gifts for the good of others.
L’Arche demonstrates that when persons with intellectual disabilities take their place at the table, they contribute to a more just, compassionate, and vibrant world for all.
How your gift will be used
Leave a legacy of inclusion and belonging by including a gift for our L’Arche Winnipeg community in your will. Your gift will directly benefit core members with intellectual disabilities that live in L’Arche Winnipeg’s homes, funding the community programming, events, general operations, and transportation required to help each L’Arche Winnipeg community member flourish as their needs and dreams change.
Help us continue to create a safe and welcoming community for individuals with intellectual disabilities. A place where people, whatever their differences, abilities or disabilities are celebrated. A place where there’s always a spot at the table.
