Residents Sheltered in 2024/2025

About

For over 55 years, WIN House has been a safe haven for women, children, and non-binary individuals fleeing gender-based violence. As Alberta’s largest domestic violence shelter, our mission extends far beyond emergency beds – we offer wraparound supports that empower individuals to heal, rebuild, and move forward.

With on-site nursing, trauma-informed counselling, child and cultural programming, and system navigation; we meet immediate needs while working toward long-term safety and stability.

At WIN House, we remain agile, compassionate, and committed – adapting to evolving needs and identities, and walking alongside our residents on their journey.

Within or beyond our walls. Until they’re safe. Without exception.

Our Impact

At WIN House, we’re not just providing shelter, we’re creating long-term change. Every day, we empower women, non-binary individuals, and children to not only escape violence but to thrive.

This year, we shifted from time-limited shelter stays to a “safe and sustainable exit” model, supporting each person’s journey with dignity, personalized goals, and real pathways to stability. And we’re seeing results:

  • 66% increase in residents moving into owned homes
  • 21% increase in transitions to market housing
  • 50% decrease in transfers to other shelters

These aren’t just statistics — they’re lives changed.

We continue to evolve our services to meet the changing needs of the people we serve. As the world seeks to understand the complex repercussions of violence and trauma, so do we. As society embraces a broader spectrum of gender and presentation, so do we.

And our work goes far beyond the walls of our shelters. WIN House is more than a bed; it’s a lifeline, a support system, and a launchpad for healing. We remain steadfast and forward-thinking in our programming, forging ahead with relentless commitment, agility, and community — so our residents can recharge, rebuild, and reimagine their ambitions.

How your gift will be used

Together, we can build a different kind of future; one where no woman, non-binary individual, or child fleeing violence is left behind. Your legacy gift will provide safety, stability, and healing for survivors, powering access to life-changing programs at WIN House.

With your support, we can continue to provide:

  • Crisis intervention & case management
  • Safe emergency shelter
  • Legal and housing support
  • Mental wellness care
  • Essential needs like food, clothing, and transportation

Your legacy is more than a donation; it’s a lifeline for survivors navigating housing, finances, and recovery. Your support means fewer exits to motels, fewer transfers to other shelters, and more empowered transitions into safe, stable homes – free of violence.
