About the National Trust for Canada
Created in 1973, the National Trust for Canada is the leading national charity dedicated to the conservation and promotion of Canada’s historic sites. The Trust believes that heritage places are a catalyst for sustainable, livable, lovable communities. Heritage conservation addresses the needs of communities today by fostering identity, driving economic activity, enhancing belonging, advancing Reconciliation, supporting climate resilience, and promoting well-being.

Our Impact

Over the last decade, our treasured donors have enabled the National Trust to:

  • Save or improve the outlook for 56 Endangered Places since 2005 – including the Bell Barn in Indian Head, SK, the Guild Inn in Toronto, ON and the Post Office in St. Stephen, NB – impacting 17.3 million Canadians in 37 distinct regions across the country.
  • Connect 41 community groups with Launch Pad experts in fundraising, marketing, and business since 2017 to help unlock the potential of their heritage places.
  • Successfully advocate for the creation of the Heritage Railway Stations Protection Act and the Heritage Lighthouse Protection Act, as well as many early heritage acts in provinces and territories across the country.
  • Deliver $1.4 million to 89 historic buildings, cultural landscapes, and other heritage places since 2016, helping them renew places that matter and foster local identity and wellbeing through their work.
  • Assemble over 6,150 heritage students and professionals to be educated and inspired at our industry-leading conferences.

How your gift will be used

Your gift to the National Trust for Canada is put to work immediately – supporting programs that turn moments of crisis into opportunities for renewal, provide coaching and capacity-building for local volunteers and boards, and strengthen national advocacy that shapes the policies affecting heritage protection.

With your support, the Trust can continue elevating the stories of historic places, rallying communities, and bringing people together around a shared commitment to stewardship. You are helping ensure that expertise, leadership, and collaboration are available where they are needed most. In doing so, you play a direct role in safeguarding the historic places that anchor our communities and reflect our shared identity – ensuring they continue to inspire and connect Canadians for generations to come.
