Wesley
About
Wesley is a local, non-profit organization working alongside individuals and families experiencing poverty, homelessness, and barriers to well-being in Hamilton, Halton, and Brantford. Through a broad range of programs and services, Wesley supports people in building stability, strengthening connections, and creating opportunities for a better future.
As a multi-service organization, Wesley provides Children, Youth & Family Services, Housing & Homelessness Services, Newcomers to Canada, and Employment Services designed to meet the evolving needs of the communities we serve. Our approach is client-centred, compassionate, and grounded in collaboration, recognizing the unique strengths and potential of every person.
Since beginning in 1955 with a single program, Wesley has grown into an innovative and adaptable organization delivering more than 30 programs across the region. We work closely with community partners, governments, donors, foundations, businesses, and volunteers to mobilize resources, create opportunities, and respond to emerging community needs.
Our vision is a community where every person is empowered through inclusivity and equity to enrich their lives.
Wesley’s legal charitable name is Wesley Urban Ministries Inc., and we operate publicly as Wesley.
Our Impact
Our Housing & Homelessness Services provide emergency shelter, transitional housing, outreach, and housing support programs that help individuals and families move toward safety, stability, and long-term housing.
Our Children, Youth & Family Services create opportunities for children, youth, and families through licensed childcare, before- and after-school care, summer camps, youth programs, family support programs, and early years services that encourage learning, connection, leadership, and healthy development. Wesley’s youth programs provide safe, supportive spaces where young people can build confidence, develop skills, strengthen relationships, and access mentorship and community supports.
Our Newcomer & Community Services help refugees, asylum seekers, and newcomers navigate the challenges of settling in Canada by providing temporary accommodation, settlement assistance, employment support, school enrollment assistance, and connections to important community resources.
Our Employment Services support youth and adults who are unemployed, underemployed, or exploring new career paths. Through career planning, job search support, workshops, training referrals, and specialized support for internationally trained professionals, Wesley helps people build skills, confidence, and pathways toward meaningful and sustainable employment.
How your gift will be used
Legacy gifts help us respond to the most urgent needs of community members struggling with poverty.
Unrestricted gifts allow Wesley to help more people during high demand and much-needed capital repairs that keep our programs operating safely.
You can also designate gifts to particular populations or program areas like children/youth and families, housing & homelessness, or newcomers. Please clarify this with Wesley’s representative, Celeste Weston, before drawing up your will to ensure your generous wishes are respected.
We don’t provide tax advice but have ideas to take to your accountant and/or lawyer to help achieve your personal goals. If you donate, please use “Wesley Urban Ministries” as our legal name.
Your trust is fundamental to our ability to help those in need. Schedule private conversations with Celeste to discuss how your will can make a lasting impact and celebrate your generosity as you see fit. She has worked in the field for 30 years, with extensive experience in estate gifts, assisting donors with once-in-a-lifetime donations at non-profits and universities. She is a Certified Fundraising Executive (2006) and a trustee at Trinity United Church in Grimsby.
