About

Welcome to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation!

Since 1984, we have been helping advance health care at Prince Edward Island’s largest hospital by funding much needed medical equipment and technologies. The QEH is the provincial referral hospital for specialized services with many of the Island’s specialists working here. More than 1,000 patients access our hospital every day.

We thank our generous donors who have chosen to make our hospital a priority for their charitable giving to ensure front-line health care workers have the necessary equipment to diagnose, treat, and care for Island families, at home, in PEI.

We are proud of each and every one of the caring and compassionate staff that performs life-changing and life-saving work every day.

Our Impact

Thanks to generous donors:

  • Retinal detachment surgeries are now happening here for the first time on PEI.  Since April 2022, patients no longer have to travel off-Island for this emergency eye care surgery.
  • The PEI Cancer Treatment Centre is well-equipped with the latest advanced medical equipment and technology to support the 1,000 Island cancer patients diagnosed annually.
  • Neonatal staff in the Provincial NICU is able to provide urgent care to hundreds of the Island’s most fragile babies who require specific neonatal care.  Approximately 1,200 babies are cared for annually at the QEH.
  • More than $1 million of state-of-the-art medical equipment and technology is now in place for PEI’s cardiac patients. Lives are being saved thanks to the expertise of dedicated staff and though kindness of our cherished donors.

How your gift will be used

Planning for the future and helping Island families has never been so important. Legacy gifts can support the areas that are most meaningful to you. Potential gift ideas include:

Emergency and Mental Health: To help strengthen mental health and addictions care for the 1 in 10 Islanders experiencing challenges right now, donors can support transformative and future initiatives related to mental health & addictions.

Cancer Care: Support by providing funds to help purchase equipment that helps diagnose and treat cancer. From analyzing biopsies in the provincial laboratory to diagnostic tests such as mammography to delivering cutting-edge radiation with the aid of a CT Simulator all help patients navigate cancer.

Dialysis: Chronic kidney disease is on the rise across Canada, which includes higher risks for the Indigenous population. “At every visit, I am appreciative of the kindness I receive and pleased to have access to this life-saving equipment,” says Keptin John Joe Sark.

QEH’s Greatest Needs: Every year with guidance from QEH medical professionals, priority medical equipment and technology is chosen to help front-line workers deliver gold standard of care to families and friends when they need it most.
