A Legacy to Remember a Loved One

By Fondation CHU Sainte-Justine

Elvira Mariotti’s relationship with CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation began more than 25 years ago, when her daughter Giulia was transferred to Sainte-Justine a few weeks after birth. A defining moment that, a few years later, led Elvira Mariotti to become a dedicated philanthropist.

Giulia lived with cerebral palsy and died at the age of 14. But not without leaving her mark: those close to her remember her inspirational outlook on life and her strength. In fact, it is her life and journey that are at the heart of Elvira’s legacy donation. Several years ago, the mother of two left a gift in her Will to the hospital where her eldest daughter grew up.

When asked about the motivations behind her gesture, Elvira says she wants to make sure that the comforting environment she and her daughter benefitted from at Sainte-Justine continues on.

“I have another child, a son, and he is extremely proud to see me make this commitment to his sister’s memory. He knows, as I do, that our gift will benefit a cause and an institution that is here to stay. Our legacy will ensure that the children who come to Sainte-Justine will be in good hands. When I think back on the moments we experienced there, it is this positive emotion that comes to mind first.”
