About
The Alberta Diabetes Foundation (ADF) has led the fight against diabetes for over 35 years. In Alberta and beyond, diabetes touches millions: over 11.7 million Canadians are affected today – a number projected to rise 42% by 2030.
ADF was founded to translate cutting-edge science into real hope!
With support from donors like you, we’ve funded world-leading breakthroughs – for example, Dr. Ray Rajotte’s pioneering islet cell transplant, which led directly to the Edmonton Protocol (now the international gold standard for islet-cell transplantation).
These achievements were made possible by caring supporters.

Our Impact

Thanks to our community’s generosity, ADF has driven dramatic progress in research, care and awareness.
- In the past year we funded 6 visionary research projects – from improving islet-cell transplant therapies to regenerating insulin-producing beta cells – each bringing us closer to better treatments and a cure.
- We also created 4 graduate studentships, investing in the next generation of scientists who will push diabetes science forward.
- These investments have accelerated multiple clinical trials of promising new treatments for both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.
- On the ground, community events (from charity galas and sports fundraisers to car shows and raffles) have united Albertans around this cause, raising funds and spreading hope to families affected by diabetes.
