About YWCA Canada
YWCA Canada is a leading voice for women, girls, Two-Spirit, and gender diverse people.
For 150 years, YWCA has been at the forefront of a movement: to fight gender-based violence, build affordable housing, and advocate for workplace equity.
A Women’s Perspective: Women must take leadership in shaping society’s direction in order to achieve equity and equality for all women.
Difference and Diversity: In order to achieve social and other forms of justice, we must embrace difference and diversity among peoples.
The Whole Person: Strength, wisdom, and character come from the balanced development of the whole person in body, mind, and spirit.
Community Mindedness: Healthy communities, free from violence, racism, and other abuses of power, nurture the whole person. Individuals committed to equity advance the growth of such communities.
Global Interdependence: The worldwide struggle for equity and equality interconnects all women.
YWCA Canada’s informed advocacy aims to: End gender-based violence, Implement national childcare, Achieve economic equality, End homelessness for women and girls.
In collaboration with YWCAs across the country, we develop and scale up local programs, secure funding for, and coordinate national programs and initiatives that expand best and promising practices.
YWCA Canada’s does this through programs like:

- Think Big! Lead Now! Young Women’s Leadership Program: Designed to equip young women and non-binary youth living in Canada with the knowledge and skills to lead now!
- In Good Company: Focuses on three main areas; preparing women to be job-ready through training and capacity building, building community awareness around changing attitudes, and addressing employment barriers for women and gender diverse people.
