About

The Bruce Trail Conservancy (BTC) is one of Ontario’s largest land trusts and the steward of Canada’s longest marked footpath.

We actively preserve and care for land within the Niagara Escarpment UNESCO World Biosphere to protect its ecosystems for the benefit of all. We responsibly connect people to nature through the Bruce Trail and our protected natural areas.

We are a member-driven, volunteer-based, charitable organization, governed by a 19-member Board of Directors. Working with each of the nine Bruce Trail Clubs, we are committed to caring for the Bruce Trail and to preserving land along its route.

Our Mission:
Preserving a ribbon of wilderness, for everyone, forever.

Our Vision:
The Bruce Trail secured within a permanently protected natural corridor along the Niagara Escarpment.

Our Impact

For over 50 years, the Bruce Trail Conservancy (BTC) has been committed to preserving, protecting and stewarding Niagara Escarpment habitats along the Bruce Trail for future generations. The BTC is working to secure a permanent home for the Bruce Trail and preserve a ribbon of wilderness along the Niagara Escarpment through the purchase of land and the creation of nature reserves.

As one of Ontario’s largest and most active land trusts, the BTC has been responsible for the preservation of over 17,600 acres of Niagara Escarpment land with the support of donors, landowners, and conservation partners.

We establish new protected areas within the Bruce Trail’s conservation corridor each year and care for these special places through our Land Stewardship Program. These nature reserves protect a diverse array of habitats including wetlands, karst topography, open meadows, caves, towering scarp edges and lush forests, and provide homes for 86 species of conservation concern.

How your gift will be used

The Bruce Trail has introduced millions of people to the beauty and fragility of the Niagara Escarpment. This is where precious habitat is saved and for many, where memories are made.

Yet, many people don’t realize that the Bruce Trail is not permanently secure. Roughly one third of the Bruce Trail corridor is still vulnerable to development and access is not assured.

Gifts in wills directly support our mission to preserve a ribbon of wilderness, for everyone, forever, through the acquisition of land and creation of a permanently protected natural corridor along the Niagara Escarpment.

By considering a gift in your will, you can give future generations the joy of discovery on the Bruce Trail.
