About
The Canadian General Surgery Foundation (CGSF) was established in 1983 to empower the next generation of general surgeons and residents by funding groundbreaking research in both clinical and basic science. Over the past 40 years, the Foundation has funded research in innovation in minimally invasive techniques, cancer care, transplantation, and trauma management, ensuring that Canadian general surgeons remain at the forefront of global surgical advancements. As the Foundation looks to the future, it is committed to supporting surgeons through research, education, and advocacy that not only addresses today’s challenges but also shapes the future of patient care in Canada.
Our Impact
With your support, the Foundation continues to launch impactful programs and has goals to implement further initiatives for rural and remote surgeons – such as mentoring and technology supported training opportunities. The Foundation is also a leader in supporting early career surgeons and helping them fund and advance important surgical research projects. Since 1999, the Foundation has awarded over 50 grants of varying amounts up to a maximum of $40,000 each, funding projects that push the boundaries of surgical knowledge while keeping administrative costs low, ensuring that a minimum of $0.80 per $1 received is directed towards research, education, and advocacy.
