About
All over the world, women, girls, and trans people are leading their communities through crises, backlash, and instability. Yet despite unprecedented global wealth, they’re still expected to drive change with fragmented, short-term resources.
The Equality Fund was built in response to this design flaw in our systems. We move flexible funding to people-powered movements across the Global South. We focus on gender equality because it’s an evidence-based strategy for achieving greater global peace and prosperity.
We bring together different forms of capital – including gender-lens investing, partnerships with governments and foundations, and individual philanthropy. This model creates a sustainable pipeline of funding that supports movements over the long term, not just from moment to moment. Our partners work across the spectrum of social change, from providing frontline services to advocating for broad policy change – and everything in between. They strengthen democracy, drive climate resilience, reduce violence, and advance human rights for all.
Individual philanthropy plays a particularly critical role in supporting our partners. It moves first and fast, backs bold ideas early, and gets money where it’s needed most. Donors to the Equality Fund can act with urgency while also committing to the long game. They do this as a global community that stands in solidarity with movements worldwide.
Our Impact
The Equality Fund’s grantmaking priorities are, and always will be, guided by the leaders we serve. Our partners are addressing the most challenging issues of our time – including gender-based violence, sexual and reproductive health and rights, peace and security, climate justice, and LGBTQI+ rights. We trust deeply in their leadership; our grants are core, flexible, and multi-year. This means our partners are not bound by project cycles, but rather use our funding to meet their self-defined needs.
Since 2019, we have moved over $125 million to 1,800 partners in more than 100 countries. Our model is delivering…and we’re just getting started.
