Fondation Hôpital Charles LeMoyne
About
Since 1964, the Charles-Le Moyne Hospital Foundation has mobilized the generosity of the community to accelerate the development of Charles-Le Moyne Hospital, enabling it to provide human, accessible, and innovative care—today and for generations to come.
As the only university hospital in Montérégie and affiliated with the Université de Sherbrooke, the Hospital serves 1.5 million people—nearly 20% of Quebec’s population—and welcomes tens of thousands of patients each year. It stands out for its comprehensive range of specialized and highly specialized care, including oncology, thoracic surgery, mental health, pediatrics, dialysis, and orthopedics. It is recognized as a provincial referral center and as a hub for research and academic teaching.
Among the achievements made possible by donors are the creation of a research chair in oncological care—a major academic initiative that advances knowledge and clinical practices in a rapidly evolving field. Another milestone is the acquisition of a state-of-the-art orthopedic surgical robot—the first of its kind in a francophone public hospital in Quebec—which is transforming knee surgeries by offering greater speed, precision, and minimally invasive procedures. At the same time, the EZResus app, developed at the Hospital to ensure the safe administration of medications in critical situations, is now used in 29 countries, including in Northern Quebec. The innovation won the Canadian Space Agency’s Deep Space Healthcare Challenge and will be tested in 2025 on the International Space Station.
Guided by the values of excellence, innovation, and accessibility, the Foundation complements public funding by addressing the Hospital’s priority needs and sustaining its leadership role. Thanks to the commitment of donors and strong partnerships, it is building a lasting legacy of healthcare excellence in Montérégie, for the benefit of both current and future generations.
Our Impact
Thanks to donations, Hôpital Charles-Le Moyne acquires cutting-edge technologies and provides patients and healthcare teams with care environments that meet the highest standards.
This generosity makes it possible to address urgent needs while supporting projects that transform care delivery in the region and beyond.
Medical innovation: acquisition of a neurosurgical laser, a state-of-the-art technology that makes procedures more precise, less invasive, and safer for patients with brain tumors.
Research and teaching: creation of a research chair in oncology care and funding of initiatives that advance clinical practices and the training of future healthcare professionals.
Support for well-being: the Horizon 4 Seasons program offers young people struggling with mental health issues supervised outdoor activities that build confidence and foster recovery. In addition, the development of a multisensory room in geriatrics and the introduction of therapy dogs in oncology contribute to greater comfort and quality of life for patients.
Care close to home: development of new clinics and modernization of essential services such as the emergency department, mammography, and dialysis, ensuring that specialized care is available nearby.
