About

Life! Life is truly a gift! The Sherbrooke Community supports each person to live their life – as fully and abundantly as possible. A caring, inclusive and vibrant community enables all of us, regardless of age or ability to experience well-being. That can look like…

  • Being with children as they play and learn,
  • Enjoying pets,
  • Gardening and growing plants,
  • Making music,
  • Creating art,
  • Joining hobby clubs

… a home where we feel safe, where we grow, where we find joy!

Since 1972, Sherbrooke has envisioned a bold and bright future of how elder care can be. That Elder-directed approach is guided by the principles of the Eden Alternative®. We believe there are antidotes to the pain of loneliness, helplessness and boredom. It’s our pursuit of helping people to thrive.

In 2006, Central Haven Special Care Home joined with Sherbrooke. Together, both homes learn and adapt as we build a collaborative, resilient culture.

We strive to honour and nurture the God-given human spirit within everyone. A faith-based home since our founding 50 years ago, our six sponsoring churches are the Anglican, Roman Catholic, Mennonite, Mennonite Brethren, Presbyterian and United churches of Saskatoon.

Thanks to generous donors like you, the Sherbrooke Foundation makes life-enhancing projects happen! All charitable gifts to the Sherbrooke Foundation support full, abundant life at either Sherbrooke or Central Haven. Both our homes count on the Foundation to fund the specialized equipment and home environment that make life better for our Elders.

Our Impact

Others have said things like…

“Sherbrooke truly recruits staff that care. Sherbrooke has raised the bar … I just wanted you to know that you’ve made a very positive difference in the heart of a 90 year old man and his family. THANK YOU!”  – Lisa

Sherbrooke is a great place to live. All of the staff have the biggest hearts ever. People should support Sherbrooke because it helps everybody who lives here.”  – Resident since 2016

One of Dad’s favourite care aides baked things like coffee cake or rhubarb pie. That’s not institutional food! When Dad had trouble sleeping, a care aide would take him out in his wheelchair and walk and talk through the hallways during the night. It gave us a lot of comfort, knowing how Dad was being looked after.” – Diane

“Sherbrooke far exceeded all of my expectations … It is by far the most alive, engaged and vibrant community I’ve ever visited … You’ve shown all of us what is possible.” – Jill Vitale-Aussem, former President and CEO, Eden Alternative

How your gift will be used

Making our home “the best place to live” requires continual investment in equipment and in our home itself.  These projects are not typically funded from government sources so we look to our friends within the Sherbrooke and Central Haven communities to share generously and enable us to help make “abundant life” happen. We can’t do our work without you!

Legacy gifts to the Sherbrooke Foundation enable Sherbrooke and Central Haven to pursue new (and renewal) initiatives with the capital equipment and environment needed to support our Elders’ well-being. Legacy gifts are special. They ensure a “bright future” for Sherbrooke, benefiting countless Elders both now and in the years to come.
