About
Western Canada Theatre (WCT) is one of British Columbia’s leading theatre producers, recognized for its commitment to delivering exceptional professional live theatre to a diverse audience for almost 50 years. Our organization is dedicated to entertaining, educating, and inspiring our community, with a strong emphasis on nurturing the next generation of theatre artists.
Located in Kamloops, a vibrant city with a population of 110,000 in BC’s Southern Interior, WCT serves a broad and diverse community. Through productions at home and on tour, our programs attract patrons from many communities surrounding Kamloops and throughout the Interior.
WCT’s vision is local focus with a national impact. We develop and provide opportunities for audiences and artists in BC, while creating works that define and advance the national creative conversation. This includes building relationships with artists and companies that represent many Nations and regions across Canada. Our programming mandate includes the development of new Canadian and Indigenous work, musical theatre, family programming, and the best of world theatre that
speaks to a modern audience about the prevailing issues of our time.
Our Impact
WCT places a strong emphasis on building meaningful connections with the communities we serve through inclusive programming and active engagement. We are deeply committed to involving a diverse spectrum of community members, including emerging and established artists, youth, and individuals from equity-deserving backgrounds, particularly the Indigenous community.
Operating as a mid-sized theatre on the ancestral territory of Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc, WCT has a proven history of developing works that honour the protocols and traditions of this land.
We recognize our responsibility to bring untold stories and histories to the forefront, fostering collaboration with Indigenous nations and theatre companies across Canada. WCT has consistently championed Indigenous voices, premiering significant works by and for the Indigenous community. Through these efforts, we strive to create theatre that reflects and resonates with the diverse communities we serve.
