About

For over 60 years, L’Arche has been promoting the rights and inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities around the world. L’Arche Canada is part of an international movement where people with and without intellectual disabilities share life together in relationships rooted in mutual respect, belonging, and dignity. Here, everyone has something to give and something to receive.

Across Canada, we support 30 communities made up of homes, programs, and workshops where people build relationships, discover purpose, and experience the joy and growth that come from community life. L’Arche Canada also walks alongside international L’Arche communities facing greater challenges and fewer resources, standing together in times of crisis, growth, and celebration.

But our work extends beyond L’Arche communities. L’Arche Canada invests in training and leadership opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities to advocate and shape decisions that affect their lives.

Together with advocates, partners, and governments, we work to amplify voices of people with intellectual disabilities, raise awareness of barriers people continue to face, and help build more equitable policies and systems.

Through trusted local, national, and international partnerships, we are helping build a more just and inclusive society where people with intellectual disabilities are welcomed, valued, and have a meaningful place at the table.

The strength of our mission comes from the strength of community. Together with our donors, partners, and supporters, we are building a more inclusive and accessible society where people with disabilities can thrive.

Our Impact

Today, L’Arche Canada supports 30 communities in nine provinces from coast to coast. Across 130 homes and apartments, more than 500 people with intellectual disabilities call L’Arche home, while another 600 participate in programs including visual and performance arts, music, employment readiness, social enterprises, and recreational activities.

More than 1,400 employees work within L’Arche across Canada, discovering purpose, compassion, and personal growth.

Last year, L’Arche Canada participated in 23 national projects involving more than 150 organizations, advancing work in inclusive housing, disability justice, financial accessibility, and civic engagement.

Globally, L’Arche Canada supported communities in Ukraine, Haiti, Bethlehem, Mexico, Uganda, Egypt, and Ivory Coast through emergency relief, operational support, and leadership development opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities.

How your gift will be used

Your gift will help create homes, programs, and opportunities where people with intellectual disabilities can build friendships, grow in confidence, develop leadership skills, and experience a true sense of belonging. It will also help L’Arche Canada respond to urgent needs in Canada and in international communities facing significant challenges and limited resources.

Most importantly, your generosity will help build a more inclusive world where everyone belongs.
