About
Birchway Niagara exists to protect and empower members of our community experiencing abuse. This organization, formerly known as Women’s Place, operates a 40-bed shelter in Niagara Falls and provides domestic violence support throughout South Niagara through their 24-hour support line, as well as at outreach offices in Welland, Fort Erie and Port Colborne. The agency also offers public education and prevention programming to help end the cycle of family violence.
Mission: We will be a shoulder to lean on, a voice to advocate for, a space to feel safe in, an ally to trust, a guide to navigate, and a counsellor to heal for everyone affected by abuse of all forms.
Vision: A community without abuse.
Our Impact
Every year, hundreds of lives are changed in our community because people like you light the way to a safer future. Here, in the words of Birchway Niagara clients, is how supporting domestic violence services has an incredible impact on survivors:
“When you see your kids suffering, I think something happens to you as a mom. I am so glad that the shelter was here to help when I knew what I had to do. From safety planning to finding a home, they guided me every step of the way.” -outreach client
“Finally, someone understood what we had been through and truly cared for us… it felt more like home than the house that we lived in before. The shelter gave me a sense of freedom because I finally didn’t have to worry constantly about protecting my family. I could communicate the struggles that I had faced without feeling judged because I knew that the workers truly cared about me… they were a refuge that supported me and my family and they helped to save us from the horrible situation that we were in before.”-teen who stayed in shelter with his mother and siblings
