About
The CHEO Foundation was started by volunteers who wanted to create a pediatric health centre dedicated to caring and supporting children, youth and families in hospital, as outpatients and throughout the community. Today, that vision lives in a world-class, state-of-the-art hospital, located in Ottawa, Ontario that treats children and youth in eastern Ontario, western Quebec, northern Ontario and Nunavut. Donations to the CHEO Foundation also support the work of the CHEO Research Institute (CHEO RI) where cutting-edge science makes life changing discoveries impacting children around the world. Since 2006, Roger Neilson House, a pediatric palliative care facility, meets the unique needs of newborns, children, youth and families facing life-limiting illness. This work is supported by donations to the CHEO Foundation.
To put it simply CHEO, the CHEO Research Institute and Roger Neilson House treat, care for and support children, youth and families so that they can live their best lives – whatever that means to them. None of this would be possible without donors whose generous support meets the needs of today while investing in a strong future.
Our Impact
The impact of CHEO, the CHEO RI and RNH is felt in a real way for the 500,000 children and families who come through our doors every year. The pandemic has been extremely hard on the youngest and most vulnerable in our population. Services have been delayed, treatments have been postponed, and the waiting times in CHEO’s Emergency Department and for procedures are far too long. As front-line staff tackle these challenges in real time, those responsible for planning and administration are dealing with a health care system in crisis. As our community grows, so must CHEO’s ability to serve. When working with children, hope can always be found, and we look to the future with optimism and determination.
These generous donors have created their living legacy by making provisions for CHEO in their wills. Their impact will be felt by everyone today and for many years to come:
Peter Harle has provided funding to programs he cares about through securities.
Mark Halpern shares his thoughts on being a strategic philanthropist.
The Lavier Family created an Endowment Fund in memory of their son Cameron.
George and Jean-Louis have expressed their values beyond their lifetimes through gifts in their wills.
