About

Your last shirt has no pockets. If you are taking the important steps of estate planning, this proverb likely resonates with you. The CHEO Foundation can help you decide on the giving options that will best reflect what matters most to you and your family. By making an investment in the health and well-being of children and youth you can create a legacy that will live on for generations beyond your own lifetime.

The CHEO Foundation was created by volunteers who wanted to create a pediatric health centre dedicated to caring and supporting children, youth and families in hospital, as outpatients and throughout the community.  Today, that vision lives in a world-class, state-of-the-art hospital, located in Ottawa, Ontario that treats children and youth in eastern Ontario, western Quebec, northern Ontario and Nunavut. Donations to the CHEO Foundation also support the work of the CHEO Research Institute (CHEO RI) where cutting-edge science makes life changing discoveries impacting children around the world. Since 2006, Roger Neilson House, a pediatric palliative care facility, meets the unique needs of newborns, children, youth and families facing life-limiting illness. This work is supported by donations to the CHEO Foundation.

To put it simply CHEO, the CHEO Research Institute and Roger Neilson House treat, care for and support children, youth and families so that they can live their best lives – whatever that means to them. None of this would be possible without donors who meet the needs of today and build a strong foundation for the future.

Our Impact

The impact of CHEO, the CHEO RI and Roger Neilson House is felt everyday in a very real way for the 500,000 children and families being treated annually, the medical specialists performing 7,000 surgeries each year, the staff in CHEO’s Emergency Department opening its doors to over 70,000 patients this past year and the scientists enrolling over 73,000 patients and families in vital research projects. By putting our children’s physical and mental well-being above everything, we are ensuring that the future is a bright and hopeful one.

These are a few of the generous donors who have created their living legacy by making provisions for CHEO in their wills. Their inspiration came for different reasons, but their impact will be felt by everyone at CHEO today and for many years to come:

John and Patti May have made a gift in their will for CHEO in memory of their son Adam.

Jule Morgan encourages you to make a gift in your will to support families like hers.

Sidney and Tyleen Katz established an Endowment Fund at CHEO in thanks for the life-saving care their granddaughter received.

How your gift will be used

You decide how your gift will be used: Urgent needs in the hospital; world-class research conducted at the CHEO Research Institute; a specific program or department in the hospital such as oncology, cardiology, mental health, development and rehabilitation or the Emergency Department; Roger Neilson House – a pediatric hospice; or state-of-the-art equipment that gives our kids the best diagnostic technology and treatments available. No matter where you decide to direct your gift you will be changing lives now and in the future.

We would love to have a chat with you about where you would like to direct your gift and show you how it will make a difference in children’s health and well-being. Contact Megan Doyle Ray at mdoyleray@cheofoundation.com or 613 297-2633 for a confidential conversation.

Considering a gift in your will to CHEO will ensure that infants, children, youth and families are cared for today and always. You can read more about those powerful legacies HERE.
