About
In the late 1960’s a group of determined volunteers lobbied and fundraised to create a facility dedicated to pediatric healthcare available closer to home. Today, CHEO is a world-class healthcare centre located in Ottawa, Ontario treating children and youth in eastern Ontario, western Quebec, northern Ontario and Nunavut. Donations to CHEO Foundation support the work done in the hospital, as well as CHEO Research Institute (CHEO RI) and Roger Neilson Children’s Hospice. Research is done both at the bench and the bedside by clinicians committed to providing the best care for the children of today and the future. Roger Neilson Children’s Hospice is the pediatric palliative care hospice on the grounds of CHEO, meeting the unique needs of newborns, children, youth and families facing life-limiting illness and providing a variety of grief support programs. All of this work is supported by donations through the CHEO Foundation.
CHEO, CHEO Research Institute and Roger Neilson Children’s Hospice treat, care for and support children, youth and families so that they can live their best lives – whatever that means to them. None of this would be possible without donors whose generous support meets the needs of today while investing in a strong future.
Our Impact
The impact of CHEO, CHEO RI and Roger Neilson Children’s Hospice is felt by the over 500,000 children and their families who come through our doors every year.
As our community grows, CHEO is evolving and we continue to put the physical and mental wellbeing of families at the forefront of everything.
While wait times and staff shortages are a problem throughout the healthcare system in Canada, CHEO is making strides in addressing these challenges by rethinking the way services are offered, partnering with community health agencies and using virtual platforms to rethink the way we serve our community.
We have launched a campaign to build a new facility on our existing campus, bringing all services under one roof, giving families one location for multiple appointments. When working with children, hope can always be found, and we look to the future with optimism and determination.
These generous donors created living legacies by making provisions for CHEO in their wills. Their impact will be felt by everyone today and for generations to come:
