About
The Canadian Mental Health Association – Edmonton Region (CMHA-ER) is a not-for-profit registered charity. Since 1954, we have been the leading community mental health organization in the region and have been delivering key services in the areas of mental health support, education and training, wayfinding and collective action. We support all individuals, families, communities, and the social sector through our services and programs, such as crisis services, navigation services, peer support services, family supports, training and education programs. We also host annual events, such as Evening to Remember and Life After Suicide Loss. With the help of our staff and volunteers, CMHA-ER is able to provide mental health support, education and training programs, and promote mental health well being throughout the community.
CMHA-ER is actively engaged in fundraising activities throughout the year and relies on donations and grants to deliver our mental health services and programs. Please see our Annual Report for in-depth details.
Our Impact
CMHA-ER believes that it is crucial to have a non-judgmental and supportive listening line available 24/7, 365 days a year to support people during moments of crisis. During the 2022-23 fiscal year, CMHA-ER Crisis Services answered 11, 701 Distress Line Calls, 532 Rural Distress Line Calls, 720 Seniors Abuse Help Line Calls, 282 Online Crisis Chats, 54 Brite Line Calls and 2,605 Talk Suicide Calls. Through the 211 Line, we offer Navigation Services to support individuals to find their way through stressful and challenging situations. In 2022, we responded to close to 70,000 calls from community members, with 8,655 calls coming from seniors. The five main concerns were: income support/financial assistance, housing, mental health/substance use disorder, health, and legal/public safety concerns.
