About Edmonton’s Food Bank

Since 1981, Edmonton’s Food Bank has envisioned a community where hunger does not exist, where all citizens have access to an adequate and nutritious supply of food.
Our mission is “To be stewards in the collection of surplus and donated food for the effective distribution, free of charge, to people in need in our community while seeking solutions to the causes of hunger.”

We operate as a central warehouse and food distribution network for more than 250 agencies, churches, schools, shelters, and food depots. These partners provide over 350,000 meals monthly through soup kitchens, shelters, schools and afterschool programs, and community meals.

Our Impact

Edmonton’s Food Bank is a stopgap for our most vulnerable community members. This food is a lifeline for those who can’t make it to their next paycheque, those with unexpected expenses, and those struggling with poverty. Receiving this food is a temporary relief to ensure that our community is supported to allow people to get back on their feet.

In December 2020, our hamper client numbers were the highest in our 39 year history- 26,606 people were assisted.

In 2020, more than 4.8 million kilograms of food was redistributed throughout our community.

Our food hamper programs typically serve over 20,000 people per month.

How your gift will be used

Through your legacy gift, you are able to affect change and put hope back on the table for people experiencing food insecurity.

With the exception of 2020, Edmonton’s Food Bank does not receive core funding from any level of government for operations. The organization relies on our retail food partners for fresh food; grants and sponsorships to undertake major capital projects or fund specific food programs; and the generous donations of food and funds from the public in order to stock our shelves and keep our operation running.

Between food drives and events, our supplies will often run low, and we use monetary donations to ensure our hampers are nutritionally balanced.

Leaving a gift in your Will, regardless of size, makes a difference in your community – a legacy to cherish.
