About London Symphonia
We are passionate about music.
We believe live performance is an immersive and dynamic experience, where the audience is as important to the concert as the musicians. Music has the power to transcend – contemporary and classical scores can bring together diverse audiences of all backgrounds to celebrate the joy of music. At our core, London Symphonia is a professional symphony committed to performing vibrant and bold musical experiences for London and the region.
Incorporated in 2015, London Symphonia proudly carries on an orchestral tradition that began in 1937. We are the only professional ensemble currently offering a full season of orchestral music in the London region. As an incorporated and registered charitable organization, we have completed six seasons of exceptional classical and contemporary musical performances, meeting the community’s need for quality programming by presenting well-known symphonies, Canadian premières, and collaborations with some of Canada’s finest singer-songwriters. We also provide a number of outreach and music education engagements each year for our community.
We deliver a rich, artistic experience by seeking out the most accomplished performers, staff and conductors representing a blend of locally, nationally and internationally recognized talent. Guest conductors and performers of international acclaim consist of a mix of established and emerging artists including Bramwell Tovey, Sarah Slean, Janina Fialkowska, Scott St. John, Danny Michel, and the Amabile Singers of London, Canada. Composer-In-Residence Scott Good has brought tremendous energy and a fresh perspective on Canadian compositions that are woven into the programming.
Through the unwavering commitment of the London Symphonia musicians, the goodwill from collaborators and advisors across the country, support from all three levels of government, and financial stability from a combination of ticket sales, private donations, and corporate sponsorship, London Symphonia is uniquely positioned for continued growth.
In its first six years in operation London Symphonia has performed for over 20,000 patrons across Southern Ontario either in person or internationally via our innovative livestream program. We are equally at home performing in large venues such as Budweiser Gardens to crowds of over 2,000, playing chamber music in smaller settings or performing for our youngest fans and their parents or grandparents at our free Cushion Concert series held at Museum London.
We continually endeavor to grow and diversify our audiences to reflect the broader London community, through programming initiatives that engage different demographic groups. Our music education outreach undertakings are essential for future audience development and include speaking engagements, plus performances in schools and seniors’ residences. We are continually looking to develop strong partnerships with other arts and non-arts organizations in the city of London and the surrounding region.
Our recently developed Digital Education series was deployed at no cost in all Thames Valley District schools and is available to be viewed by over 55,000 primary students.
