For 47 years, the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation has been helping donors leverage their personal philanthropy to make lasting impacts on the health of their community. We are raising millions annually to support our region’s healthcare facilities, including Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, Oceanside Health Centre, and three long-term care facilities, by leading major fundraising campaigns for critical medical equipment, new priority projects, and programs that provide the best and highest level of healthcare to the residents of Central Vancouver Island.

Our Impact
Equipping the new Critical Care Building at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital
Our multi-year, $10.5 million campaign to raise the funds for state-of-the-art equipment for the new critical care building at NRGH is wrapping up now. The first phase, the Intensive Care Unit, opened in June of 2023 and has been operating at full capacity ever since, saving lives. The second phase High Acuity Unit is on schedule to open in the fall of 2025, thanks to donor support.
Funding Urgently Needed Equipment
Quality patient care requires innovative medical equipment, and thanks to our amazing donors, the Foundation has acquired $1,256,000 worth of technology and equipment our medical teams need to provide exceptional patient care over the past six months. From innovative technology for the Emergency Department to birthing beds for our Perinatal Unit to equipment for Anesthesiology and Pathology, donations have helped improve care across the entire healthcare system.
Improving Patient and Family Comfort and Care
We provide safe, calm, and welcoming spaces for patients and families through renovations to clinical and public spaces and equipment used directly by patients for comfort and rehabilitation.
