About
Persephone Theatre stands as a pillar in Saskatchewan’s arts community, as one of the largest employers of professional artists, and leading the province in the highest number of theatrical productions per season.
For half a century, Persephone Theatre has profoundly influenced and enriched the lives of many in Saskatoon. Whether through its Youth Tours or its critically acclaimed MainStage performances, Persephone has taken a leading role in the artistic engagement of the community.
Fostering a loyal audience base drawn to high-quality theatre experiences, Persephone Theatre has much to offer. Beyond the bustling stages and rehearsal halls, its immersive theatre school and youth programs, as well as the diverse community and cultural events hosted at its venue, establish Persephone Theatre as a cultural hub in Saskatoon, and the province of Saskatchewan.
Our Impact
Every year, Persephone Theatre’s venue welcomes over 80,000 patrons, employs 200 artists, supports a dedicated staff of more than 50, and serves as a creative hub for many others. Over the past half-century, Persephone has staged over 400 productions, establishing ourselves as the vibrant heart of Saskatoon’s theatre community.
Persephone Theatre runs a robust Accessibility Program, which aims to remove barriers of access, ensuring theatre is truly for all. These programs are offered with every MainStage show in our season. This program includes: American Sign Language (ASL) interpreted performances, Audio Described, Relaxed Performances, and Pay–What-You-Choose performances, which allows everyone to come to the theatre and enjoy a play, regardless of barriers they may face.
Persephone’s Theatre School operates year-round, with fall and winter classes, summer camps, Musical Theatre camps, Professional Development Day classes, and workshops, for ages 3-adult. For youth ages 14-19, Young Company provides training at the highest caliber for a dedicated group of young people who are serious about pursuing a career in the theatre.
Persephone Theatre also houses an Artist Mentorship Program (AMP), which provides opportunities for emerging artists, and artists broadening their discipline, in all areas of production.
