The strongest hospitals have the strongest philanthropy.
Since 1989, the Victoria Hospitals Foundation has partnered with Vancouver Islanders to raise money to fund urgently-needed equipment for Victoria General Hospital (VGH), Royal Jubilee Hospital (RJH), and Gorge Road Health Centre (GRHC).
As Island Health’s charitable partner, we raise funds for vital medical equipment, education, research, and special projects. With VGH and RJH being Vancouver Island’s referral centres, over 885,000 Islanders from across the Island depend on these hospitals for treatment and care using this donor-funded equipment.
Our donor community funds 40% of the equipment used in these hospitals, bringing world-class healthcare to the island, and enabling specific treatments that would likely not be available otherwise. The generosity of our donors means our communities have access to the care they need without having to travel elsewhere to get it. Our donors understand how important it is to support local healthcare for the greater good, advancing it beyond just the standard of care.

Our Impact
VHF donors fund 40% of the equipment in our hospitals.
Donors transform care in our hospitals – from maternity and pediatrics to seniors and cognitive health.
Through donor support, our Foundation funds:
- Hospital equipment, which contributes to faster diagnosis and more efficient treatment in all 11 areas of care at Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria General Hospital, and Gorge Road Health Centre.
- Special projects that help advance the level of care our hospitals and care teams provide.
- Education and research to keep our hospitals and caregivers at the top of their fields.
Over the past decade, our Foundation has successfully completed 12 transformative campaigns.
Recent successes:
- Imaging is Power, raised $11 million to support six vital pieces of imaging equipment, including two “first-in Canada” MRI refurbishments, a ct scanner, a spect/ct scanner and a cath lab c-arm
- Emerge Stronger, a $10 million campaign launched as a response to COVID-19, supported the purchase of over 200 new pieces of equipment in every area of care, including research and education
- It’s Critical, raised $7 million to increase critical care capacity at Royal Jubilee Hospital
