Statement of Purpose – Working together to inspire our community to invest in regional healthcare for the benefit of everyone.

The Markdale Hospital is a part of Brightshores Health System, which operates 6 hospitals in the Grey Bruce region.  Brightshores has 1,700 dedicated staff and more than 200 physicians who work together, delivering excellent patient care to residents and visitors.

The Foundation works with the community to ensure that our medical team has the equipment needed to deliver the care they are trained to provide.  Contrary to popular belief, new medical equipment and other capital needs are NOT covered by provincial funding.  Hospitals are 100% responsible for the purchase of equipment, facility improvements and IT.  Funds must be raised in the community to buy everything from blood pressure cuffs and patient beds to hi-tech medical imaging equipment.

Our Impact

In 2024/25:

  • 15,699 ER visits
  • 42 average age of ER patient
  • 8,242 Radiology procedures
  • 308,331 Lab tests
  • 3,295 Inpatient Care days provided
