About

The GVPAF brings music, dance, speech, and dramatic arts to life through an annual, six‑week festival grounded in education, encouragement, and community. Each year we create meaningful opportunities for over 5,000 young performers on stage to share their passion, and receive thoughtful, professional guidance.

At the heart of the festival is a supportive learning environment where personal growth matters as much as artistic development. Live, adjudicated performances build confidence, resilience and self worth while receiving feedback that is empowering. GVPAF is widely respected for the calibre of its adjudicators, who are known for their expertise and ability to connect with performers to help them see what they are capable of becoming.

Above all what truly sets GVPAF apart is the warmth of the experience. As a volunteer‑led festival with deep roots in the community, every performance is supported by people who believe in young artists. This spirit of care creates an atmosphere where performers feel safe to challenge themselves, families feel proud, and the community comes together to celebrate creativity, effort, and possibility.

Our Impact

The Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival changes lives by giving young performers a chance to be seen, heard, and encouraged.  Thoughtful feedback from professional adjudicators help students understand their potential, while awards affirm that hard work truly matters.

For families, GVPAF creates moments of pride and connection: watching a child step onto a stage, grow through their experience, and feel supported by a caring community. Teachers and Studios benefit from expert insights, and validation for the long work hours devoted to nurturing young artists.

For Greater Victoria, GVPAF is a celebration of cultural vitality and human potential. By prioritizing learning, encouragement, and access to the arts, GVPAF fosters creativity, discipline, confidence, and connection that extend far beyond the Festival itself – making a lasting difference in individual lives and in the community as a whole.

How your gift will be used

Legacy gifts to the Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival are used to support the essential costs of delivering the festival each year. These include administration, venues, professional adjudicators, accessibility supports, and volunteer coordination.

GVPAF has long resisted increasing registration and admission fees, recognizing that many families and public schools who rely on the festival cannot absorb higher costs. Legacy gifts help ensure the festival remains affordable and inclusive, without placing unsustainable pressure on volunteers or reducing the quality of the experience.

Because needs change over time, legacy gifts are generally directed to the areas of greatest impact when they are received. This flexible support helps maintain artistic excellence, supports fair adjudicator compensation, and allows the festival to operate in a way that is sustainable, welcoming, and true to its purpose.
