About
The Winnipeg Humane Society (WHS) is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization that cares for more than 10,000 animals in shelter and the community each year. Without the generous support of our donors, these animals are given food, shelter, medical care, love, and most importantly, a second chance. Along with finding animals forever families, the WHS offers community support programs and services that help KEEP animals where they belong – in their loving homes. Our Pet Food Bank, free behaviour helpline, low-cost veterinary services, low-cost spay and neuter program (SNAP), and emergency boarding and SafePet programs, aim to ensure the bond between people and their pets remains.
All donors who indicate to us that they have left a gift in their will become members of the Faithful Forever Society. This group of like-minded members receive an invitation to our annual afternoon of gratitude, a subscription to The Printed Paw (WHS newsletter), and an annual impact report. They also have the opportunity to discuss their options with a dedicated staff member.
Let your love of animals be your legacy through a planned gift to the WHS. Choosing to remember the WHS is the perfect way to let your care and compassion for animals continue for years to come.
Our Impact
The Winnipeg Humane Society made a commitment to become one of the most progressive, efficient, and successful shelters in North America. We can say with great pride that we have made incredible achievements in advancing this commitment.
This is a snapshot of our work in the community last year:
- 4,176 animals found their forever homes
- 6,240 in-house spay and neuter surgeries
- 1,068 other in-house surgeries including orthopedic and dental
- 38 clinics through our One Health program which brings much needed veterinary care to remote and urban communities in Manitoba
- 280 animals cared through Emergency and SafePet boarding which cares for animals while their owner is dealing with hospitalization, displacement, or escaping domestic abuse
- 1,609 welfare/cruelty calls to Investigation and Emergency Response (IER)
