About
For over a century YW Calgary has evolved to meet the changing needs of our community and provide safe places and programming to empower a brighter future for women and their families.
YW Calgary offers over 15 programs and services and through the dedicated work of our skilled team we work alongside women and their families to ensure they have the opportunity, the ability and the resources they need to thrive. YW Calgary is there for women and their families for whatever moment they are in and journey they are on.
Through our programs and services YW Calgary strives to:
Respond – We operate 24 hours a day and offer support within our trauma-informed spaces and out in the community to meet the needs of people and provide safety, hope and the space to heal.
Prevent – YW continues to expand our preventative work through mental health supports, language and literacy skill building, offering a continuum of financial empowerment programming, and educating youth and adults about healthy relationships.
Empower – Throughout all our programs and services women and their families are the leaders of their journey. They are empowered to build a brighter future through dignified spaces, a strengths-based approach, and a women-centred organization.
By leaving a gift in your will, you will ensure YW’s ability to support women and their families in building a life with choice, dignity, opportunity and hope. To learn how you can help make this possible through your will visit, https://www.ywcalgary.ca/
Our Impact
YW Calgary supports women and their families to meet their immediate and most basic needs, then works directly with them to create positive change in their lives. We believe that healthy women and healthy families lead to thriving communities and each year we connect with and support thousands of people here in Calgary and surrounding area.
Last year alone we:
- Positively impacted over 7,800 people through programs and services and for every one person interacting directly with YW, at least two more individuals benefited from that experience. This means that in 2023, over 23,000 lives were impacted through YW’s work.
- Provided safety and services to over 3,500 people who experienced or were at risk of experiencing domestic violence.
- Guided over 2,200 people through intervention services for mental well-being and over 1,500 people were supported in prevention areas including our healthy relationships programming for youth and adults.; and
- Heard from participants about the positive change in their lives after interacting with YW, with 94% of respondents feeling safe in their relationships, 93% feeling hopefully about the future, 91% having people in their lives to lean on when they are struggling and 88% having stable housing.
